PSHE and RSE at Locking Stumps



At Locking Stumps, we believe that children should be encouraged to develop as a well-rounded individual throughout their time in school and beyond and make positive contributions to our community.

The PSHE curriculum (tied strongly to our RSHE Policy and Pastoral Care offer) enables the children to have the ability and willingness to build relationships, develop themselves as good citizens and develop skills for living in the current and future world.

We believe in providing the children with a programme of study which is engaging, evolving with current affairs, proactively addressing community issues and one where children will be able to develop and question their own views and opinions. Where children’s experiences limit their knowledge and understanding, we aim to provide these for all. Our aim is to ensure that all children have the opportunity to achieve their potential in the subject of PSHE and in their personal development.

At Locking Stumps Community Primary School we understand that pupils must be provided with an education that prepares them for the opportunities, responsibilities and experiences of adult life. A key part of this relates to relationships and health education, which must be delivered to every primary-aged pupil. Primary schools also have the option to decide whether pupils are taught sex education. As per the DfE guidance, we have made the decision to teach ‘sex education’ at Locking Stumps.

Relationships education focusses on giving pupils the knowledge they need to make informed decisions about their wellbeing, health and relationships, and to build their self-efficacy. Health education focusses on equipping pupils with the knowledge they need to make good decisions about their own health and wellbeing.

We understand our responsibility to deliver a high-quality, age-appropriate and evidence-based relationships, sex and health curriculum for all our pupils. This policy sets out the framework for our relationships, sex and health curriculum, providing clarity on how it is informed, organised and delivered.
